Logicomix

Authors: Apostolos Doxiadis, Christos H. Papadimitriou, Alecos Papadatos (illustrator) and Annie Di Donna (illlustrator)
Genre: fiction, graphic novel, history

Logicomix is a graphic novel that introduces its readers to some of the basic concepts of logic and also the most important people that helped in laying its foundations. It includes two simultaneous stories- one of the life of Bertrand Russel as he narrates it and the other of the writers as they write the book. This combination leads to a book that is difficult to be put down once you start reading.

There are many reasons that make it so great. The first is the unconventional medium. One does not expect the book that has such a serious theme to be a graphic novel. However, this in no way compromises with clarity of the concepts and ideas introduced. Moreover, I felt that the medium of a graphic novels made those difficult ideas and concepts more understandable. Over all, the authors have been successful in maintaining a balance between the ideas and the emotions of the people involved.

This was my first ever graphic novel and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Highly recommended to people in interested in the history of science and philosophy as well as graphic novel lovers.
