Genre: non fiction
This book is based on a series of meetings the author had
with his dying professor. Morrie Schwartz was someone who understood Mitch (the
author) when he was struggling to understand himself and tried to guide him
through life. As he got busy, the author lost contact with his old professor. A
chance TV show lead him back to his then dying teacher.
Over the course of several weeks the two discuss several
problems that every young person faces, self-pity, regret, fear of death,
issues with the family, marriage, fear of aging, the want of money etc. The
wisdom comes from a man who has accepted his fate and made peace with death.
The writing is simple enough but the words make a deep impact as you read on.
There are so many quotes from this book that will remain etched in my mind! By
the end of it, one can’t help but form a connection with both the author and
the old professor.
Overall, the book truly and simply summarizes what life is
all about and how one can give more meaning to it.
