Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind

Author: Yuval Noah Harari
Genre: Non fiction, human evolution, history,

The book is exactly what the title boasts and it is an amazing piece of work! I began the book with high expectations and I was not disappointed. Harari has managed to write a colorful and detailed account of the evolution of mankind right from the first appearance of Homo sapiens to the modern times.

The whole book is very well structured making smooth transitions from one period to the other. The author has made insightful comments on the major events that shaped humankind: the agricultural revolution, rise of empires, religion as well as the industrial and scientific revolution. The reason that makes this book an interesting read is that it does not just state facts as they occurred but the author has actually tried to give the reasons why things happened as they are. The reasons are all logical but at the same time thought provoking.

Over all, a delightful read and highly recommended!

P.S. my favorite parts were the Harry Potter references!
